Common questions
What is a seeded line?
A seeded line is a cultivation rope wrapped with twine carrying thousands of microscopic seaweed seedlings. You anchor it at your site and the seedlings grow into a full crop within one season. We also supply seeded twine for direct seeding.
Which seaweed species do you supply as seeded lines?
We supply brown, red and green macroalgae: sugar kelp (Saccharina latissima), oarweed (Laminaria digitata), sea lace (Chorda filum), toothed wrack (Fucus serratus) and bladderwrack (Fucus vesiculosus); sea lettuce (Ulva lactuca) and gut weed (Ulva intestinalis); and Irish moss (Chondrus crispus).
Do you supply native, locally adapted strains?
Yes. Every seeded line is grown from mother plants (broodstock) collected in your own waters, so the seaweed is native and adapted to your local conditions — not a strain imported from elsewhere.
Do you offer seeded twine for direct seeding?
Yes. As well as ready-to-deploy seeded lines, we provide seeded twine and starting material for direct seeding, so you can choose the method that fits your site and equipment.
How far in advance should I order?
Plan about one season ahead. Because each line is produced to order from local broodstock, we need lead time to collect, seed and grow the material before your deployment window.
Do you supply red and green seaweed seedlings?
Yes. Alongside brown kelps we cultivate red seaweed (Irish moss, Chondrus crispus) and green seaweed (sea lettuce, Ulva lactuca; gut weed, Ulva intestinalis) as seeded lines — species many suppliers do not offer.
Do you supply seeded lines for restoration projects?
Yes. We work with farms, research groups and macroalgae restoration projects across Europe, the Nordic region and the Baltic, supplying seeded lines tailored to each site.
Do you sell seaweed seed and kelp seed?
Yes. "Seaweed seed" and "kelp seed" are common names for our starting material — the seeded lines, seeded twine and seed cultures we produce from native broodstock for farms and restoration across Europe.
What is a seed culture, and how is it delivered?
A seed culture is a living culture of seaweed spores or gametophytes. We supply it ready to use in a flask, so you can carry out direct seeding onto your own rope or twine on site.
Can I buy seeded ropes for kelp farming in Europe?
Yes. Our seeded lines are seeded ropes ready to deploy on a kelp or seaweed farm. We grow them from local strains and supply farms and restoration projects across Europe, the Nordic region and the Baltic.
Seeded line or direct seeding — what is the difference?
A seeded line (or seeded rope) arrives already carrying young seaweed, ready to put straight in the water. Direct seeding means applying a seed culture onto your own rope yourself. We offer both; for red and green species we usually recommend twine-seeding.
Do you ship seeded lines across Europe?
Yes. We supply seeded lines, seeded twine and seed cultures to seaweed farms, research groups and restoration projects across Europe, the Nordic region and the Baltic. Because the material is living and grown to order, we plan delivery together with you to match your deployment window.
Which countries do you supply seaweed seed to?
We work right across maritime Europe and the wider Nordic and Baltic region. That includes Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Ireland, the United Kingdom (including Scotland), Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece, Croatia, Slovenia, Malta, Cyprus, Romania and Bulgaria. Since we grow from local broodstock, a project in your country usually starts by collecting native mother plants from your own waters together — so the strain is adapted to your site rather than imported. Get in touch and we can talk through what that looks like in your area.
Do you supply Saccharina latissima or Laminaria seed and gametophyte cultures?
Yes. We cultivate sugar kelp (Saccharina latissima) and oarweed (Laminaria digitata) as seeded lines and seeded twine, and we can provide gametophyte and spore cultures in a flask for direct seeding. These are widely searched for as kelp seed, kelp gametophytes or starting material.
Can seeded lines be used for blue carbon and kelp forest restoration?
Yes. The same native, locally grown seeded lines we supply for farming are used in macroalgae and kelp forest restoration, including blue-carbon and seaforestation projects. We collaborate with research groups and restoration consortia across Europe on this.
Do you offer contract growing or hatchery services?
In effect, yes — most of our work is growing seeded lines to order from broodstock collected in your own area, which is a form of contract cultivation. If you have a farm or restoration project and need a hatchery partner to raise native seedlings for you, that is exactly what we do. Let us talk it through.
